Energy Cost

Energy & Cost:

Power and Efficiency

Operation Cost of running a standard air compressor at full load
assuming main drive motor 75 kw!

Duration = operation time : 24 hours, 26 days per month.

Electricity unit cost :   RM 0.35 per kwh

Monthly:
Total energy cost = 75 kw X 24 hrs X 26 days X RM 0.35 /kwh
                            = RM 16,380.00
Yearly
Total Energy Cost = RM 16,380.00 X 12 months
                              = RM 196,560.00

NOTE:

Some or certain Compressors are install with a bigger sized drive motor, usually 86 kw.

Example:

Base on Dive motor = 86 kw
Monthly Energy cost = 86 kw X 24 hrs X 26 days X RM 0.35 kwh
                                   = RM 18,782.40

Therefore:
Yearly power cost = RM 18,782.40 X 12 months
                              = RM 225,388.80

Meaning:
your are paying extra for same amount of air generated!

Brake horsepower is the input power required at the compressor input shaft for a specific speed, capacity, and pressure condition.

Motor horsepower is the nominal rating of the prime mover. The service factor is the additional power built into an electric motor above its nominal rating - expressed as percent.

Within the service factor, the brake horsepower driving an air compressor can be higher than the motor's nominal horsepower.

The power efficiency of a compressor is the ratio of the air delivered by the compressor and its input electrical requirements.

Efficiency usually is expressed as brake horsepower per 100 cfm of delivered air.
